PRIMARY FUNCTION 

This is a full-time position for a Systems Engineer supporting our federal government customer at Hurlburt Field, FL. The successful candidate will be part of a team that builds synthetic environments that are flown on Special Operations Forces ground and air simulators. The system provides operational intelligence support to enable integrated SOF mission planning and rehearsal for real-world combat environments. This position will work with a dynamic systems engineering team for system management, data storage, network infrastructure, Geospatial Services, dissemination, integration. They will also be responsible for systems on the SOF Information Enterprise, cyber security, application management, functionality, and end-user experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Perform system administration duties in maintenance and technology upgrades for the SOFPREP data storage, network, and user workstation enterprise.
  • Perform system repairs and update software/operating systems (Solaris & Windows platform).
  • Supports the security controls assignment, implementation, and assessment to ensure systems and user community needs are met per NIST 800-53 standards.
  • Develop configuration standards of systems such as Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, Subnets, and DNS in accordance with policy directives.
  • Configures and maintains Hybrid domain of Windows servers and Unix Solaris Servers using AD domain controllers/NIS master per DISA STIGS, USSOCOM, and USCYBERCOM directives
  • Deploys approved system updates for all Windows and UNIX servers in datacenter.
  • Setup and maintain backup and recovery procedures and documentation per DISA STIG and NIST 800-53A Controls.
  • Manages application license server and assists in procurement of licenses.
  • Researches and develops solutions for emerging technologies.
  • Develops, tests, hardens, deploys and maintains custom workstations to meet SOFPREP’s mission needs.
  • Tests and deploys security upgrades and patches on custom workstations designed for Geospatial and Simulation design applications per DISA STIGS, USSOCOM, and USCYBERCOM directives.
  • Supports the security controls assignment, implementation, and assessment to ensure systems and user community needs are met per NIST 800-53 standards.
  • Performs small computer maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Manages IT hardware warranty submissions.
  • Assist customers with hardware and software challenges, and maintaining working components through repair or replacement.
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment.
  • Provides support to users in the areas of account management, enterprise applications, desktop applications and peripherals.
  • Monitors, diagnoses, resolves and documents complex network, storage and computer system issues.
  • Monitor the environmental conditions of a data center to ensure they are optimum for network, storage, servers, and other devices.
  • Calibrate and monitor data center equipment to ensure efficient performance.
  • Ensures long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and recommends technical solutions; recommends acquisition of new hardware and software to maintain technological currency.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of security risks and best practices for IT Systems.
  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures on daily responsibilities.
  • Configures storage/LUNS/zfspools from NAS/SAN Oracle storage devices.

REQUIRED SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • BS in Computer or Information Systems or related field and eight (8) years of experience in Data Center services with focus on GIS systems engineering.
  • Maintains DODI 8570.1M certifications. IAT Lvl 2 or higher required.
  • Maintains required training certifications for specialized software.
  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance
  • Proficient in MS Windows, UNIX (Solaris) systems, virtual environments, systems/network engineering, database administration.
  • Must have complete understanding of systems design to include servers, storage, and interconnecting network devices.
  • Strong leadership skills and must demonstrate an ability to balance responsibilities among assigned activities; including the ability to manage transitions effectively from task to task, and proven adaptability to varying customer needs.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

This is a full-time position for a Senior Storage Engineer supporting our federal government customer at Hurlburt Field, FL. The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with a wide range of enterprise storage technologies, (i.e. file system administration and backup solutions). You will focus on hands-on storage administration and engineering: design, administration, implementation, and support storage solutions deployment for UNIX and Windows to include archive solutions. You will act as a liaison with System and Network Administrators between vendors and end users. Experience with Cloud Storage solutions is a plus.

Sample of daily responsibilities:

  • Design, Configure, and Manage SAM-FS/ACSLS for a private standalone network
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain Storage solutions for emerging technology
  • Design, improve, and deploy technical and application solutions to meet DOD requirements
  • Translate business requirements to determine appropriate storage solutions for DOD Network
  • Work with backup teams to ensure proper tape backup requirements are met
  • Produce documentation on installed systems and their configurations
  • Ensure that root-cause analysis is identified and knowledge gained is applied for process improvement
  • Design storage solutions and sustainability by developing roadmaps
  • Measure and monitor storage availability, response time, and backup window
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work with users to implement those fixes.
  • Coordinates and/or performs additions and changes to Storage systems; including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software.
  • Implement best practices for system security and data backups.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve all technical issues when they arise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor-level degree and a minimum of 7 years of professional and relevant experience. Experience supporting military / DoD programs is a plus. A combination of training, education, and experience (including Military service) equivalent to a degree and required years of experience may be acceptable).
  • Certifications: 8570 IAT level 2 or higher.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work directly with users of high-end desktops.
  • Extensive background with Storage solutions (SAN, NAS, Archive).
  • Experience with tape backup systems.
  • Operational knowledge of Solaris 10/11, SPARK/x86 Platforms.
  • Operational knowledge of Integrated Lights Out Manager.
  • Operational knowledge of NetBackup and Veritas.
  • Experience in Data Migration between Windows and Unix Platforms.
